The first generation Lincoln Navigator, introduced in late 1997 as a 1998 model, sparked the tremendous growth of the full-size luxury sport utility segment. Between 1997 and 2000, the segment grew from more than 40,000 units to more than 83,000 units. Navigator’s share at the end of November 2001 was more than 40 percent.
